Tackle Strong Winds with Defensive Driving Techniques

Driving when it is extremely windy outside is not safe at all. But sometimes, you would need to get somewhere important or undertake an important task because of which you may have to drive in such unavoidable conditions. At ProDriver2B Academy, we teach every student defensive driving techniques so that they can be prepared for such situations. No matter how good a driver you may be, sometimes you cannot win against nature. Therefore, there are some techniques that you should follow to be safe. Here are the things to keep in mind and what you will learn if you take up our defensive driving course.

  1. First, for safely driving through strong winds, it is important that you do not speed. Even on normal days, people are advised not to speed for safety reasons. You need to be prepared to stop at any time because you would know what you may encounter on the way. So, drive slowly.
  2. Make sure to keep all your windows up as the strong winds can make dust get into your eyes thereby making you lose focus and impacting your visibility.
  3. Make sure to look out for debris and other forms of obstacles that are being blown off the road. Some may be directed toward your vehicle, so stay vigilant and drive cautiously. This is an important technique that you will learn during your defensive driving course.
  4. During strong winds, a lot of pedestrians will not be able to hear you honk. So, no matter what the situation is, let them pass by before you drive by. Defensive training will teach you how to ensure you keep yourself and those on the road walking safely too.
  5. If at all you are carrying cargo, make sure it is securely tied down. Strong winds could affect them if not secured well, thereby compromising your driving and distracting you in case it falls off.
  6. Make sure to keep a safe distance from all vehicles especially the taller ones when you are on the bridge and in exposed areas. If the winds are too strong, you might not have enough control over your vehicle, so it is best that you maintain a safe distance.
